Of the Villagers that have these new quests ready in-game is one of Palia's most beloved characters, Ashura, whose new Friendship quest, Sins of the Father, continues from his subsequent chapter.

Palians can begin unlocking this new Friendship level 5 quest by meeting the prerequisites before starting them and learning that Ashura has a shockingly dark past from the war with which to reconcile. As such, we've detailed the objectives to follow as we've explained how to complete the Sins of the Father Friendship quest in Palia.

Auni has a book in his possession; however, he has a favor to ask of The Player regarding this book. The book in question has some connections to Ashura, which they have to inquire about around the village on a subject that Ashura has difficulty discussing.

As such, we've provided the objectives Palians are to follow and complete for the Sins of the Father Friendship quest in Palia:

  • Read the book from Auni
    • Return the logbook to Ashura
  • Talk to Caleri when she is working at the Library
    • Optional: Talk to other Villagers about the war
  • Read the history book
    • Return to Ashura
  • Get the following items:
    • Apple Pie x1
    • Chili Oil Dumplings x1
    • Shepp's Pie x1
    • Flow-infused Wood x1
    • Sundrop Lilies x5
  • Return to Ashura
  • Wait for a letter from Ashura

How To Complete The Sins Of The Father Friendship Quest In Palia?

Once Palians have completed the A Family Matter Friendship quest and reached Friendship level 5 with Ashura, Auni will surprise them by showing up on their Housing Plot. Auni was chasing after a dragonfly that flew away when he found a book he revealed wasn't from the Library.

While Auni may have "skimmed" the book, he requests Palians to read it to determine who it may belong to before returning it to them. This triggers the Sins of the Father Friendship quest, and they'll receive the Logbook quest item, which they can read its pages and find that it belongs to Ashura.

Depending on the time of day, they can find Ashura at a few places, including Ormuu's Horn Inn, Remembrance Garden, and along the river banks near Leafhopper Hills. After returning the logbook to him, he mentions the Umbraan War, which he's still not ready to speak about, but suggests researching the subject at the Library or talking to the Villagers for more information, highlighted by a Question Mark icon.

While the latter is an optional objective, they can speak to Auni, Badruu, Chayne, Delaila, Eshe, Hodari, Kenli, Reth, and Sifuu; however, Chayne will give them the best context as he had served in the war as a medic. They can visit Caleri and request a book detailing the Umbraan War on a shelf nearby to read before reporting to Ashura.

After informing Ashura that they have spoken to some Villagers and read a book Caleri has provided on the war, he explains that it still "haunts" him to this day, revealing his involvement as an assassin sent by the Palian Republic. He shockingly revealed that while his mission was to execute the Umbraan Queen, he unfortunately assassinated her daughter, as the war had ended not long after the tragic event.

This explains why he didn't want his son, Nuroo, to join the military despite Ashura's warnings and reservations, as he didn't want his son to make the same mistakes he did. While Ashura has to deal with the trauma and stress as a result, he experiences constant regret relating to his actions but feels slightly relieved expressing them to The Player.

Ashura explains that he hadn't told his late wife, Sabine, or his son about the events of the Umbraan War; he wanted to atone for that by informing them. He'll ask them to help him prepare some incense for Sabine's memorial, prepare her favorite dishes, and eventually speak with Nuroo.

They'll have to forage some Sundrop Lilies and Flow-infused Wood for Sabine's memorial and prepare Apple Pie, Chili Oil Dumplings, and Shepp's Pie. The recipes for Chili Oil Dumplings and Shepp's Pie can be purchased from Reth's Cooking Guild for 2,500 and 1,500 Gold, respectively.

The Apple Pie recipe is found inside Delaila and Badruu's room during Delaila's Friendship Level 3 quest, Berry Blues, or Fertile Ground. Once they have all the items, return to Ashura and hand them over, for which he'll thank them and state that he'll let them know "how it goes."

Ashura will forward them a letter about how things went well with his visit to Sabine's grave, and he'll start working on a letter to send to his son. Ashura reveals that he needs some "moral support, requesting to meet him at Ormuu's Horn Inn, where they should encourage Ashura to send the letter detailing the truth to his son and granddaughter, which he'll thank them once more and complete the quest.

Upon completing the Sins of the Father Friendship quest, they'll receive 35 Renown and a new Furnishing item, Ashura's Carved Sernuk, to display at home. The logbook they received from Auni at the start of the quest will remain in their possession and can be found within the Quest Pouch from their Inventory.
