OWL DnD 5E Monster - DnD 5e Backgrounds (2024)

by admin

Hello zoologists of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the 21st episode of our beast series. We have a great one in store for us today in the way that this is arguably one of the most powerful cr0 beasts in the entire game. At least currently, i’m sure there are gonna add more stuff in the future but currently this is a strong front runner.

We’re talking about the owl monster 5e it is just found in the basic rules is in the phb in the dmg probably in the monster manual as well at some point or another. That being said, i love them, i think he’s super cool, he’s arguably the best familiar you take if you’re a wizard. I have a whole article series dedicated to that as well, but let’s take a quick look at its stats so we can understand him a little bit better. Also read find familiar 5e.

Table of Contents

Owl Monster 5E Stat Block

  • Type: Tiny beast, unaligned
  • Armor Class: 11
  • Hit Points: 1 (1d4 – 1)
  • Speed: 5 ft., fly 60 ft.

He’s considered to be a tiny beast that is unaligned as most beasts are. AC of 11, one hit point, calculated by rolling a d4 and subtracting one, it has a regular speed of five feet but a fly speed of 60 feet god damn. Now take a look at owl monster dnd actual stats.

Owl Monster DnD 5E Stats

  • STR: 3 (-4)
  • DEX: 13 (+1)
  • CON: 8 (-1)
  • INT: 2 (-4)
  • WIS: 12 (+1)
  • CHA: 7 (-2)

You’ll notice not very strong and not very smart, a little bit of dexterity and a little bit of wisdom. Outside of that everything else is just kind of bad. Now looking at its skills though.

Skills:

  • Perception: +3
  • Stealth: +3
  • Senses: Darkvision 120 ft., Passive Perception 13
  • Languages: —
  • Challenge: 0 (10 XP)

You’ll see +3 to perception and a +3 to stealth. Checking out his senses now you can see darkvision upto a 120 feet oh my goodness and passive perception of 13 but if he thought that was good, that’s not all we got some other traits to check out. Also read what is the best subclass for owlin?.

Other Traits

  • Flyby: The owl doesn’t provoke opportunity attacks when it flies out of an enemy’s reach.

Namely flyby which is what the owl is by far the most known for, essentially it does not provoke opportunity attacks when it flies outside of an enemy’s reach. Very good stuff! Technically speaking it’s immune to sentinel as well because it’s not taking they disengage action really funny wording there but technically true.

  • Keen Hearing and Sight: The owl has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or sight.

He also gets keen hearing and sight which loans him advantage of perception checks that rely on hearing or sight which you could make an argument is virtually every perception check you could reasonably do. Not only that but he is capable of an action. Also check out this what is the owl race in d&d?

Actions

  • Talons: Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 1 slashing damage

It is a melee weapon attack plus three to hit heck yeah! Reach of five feet and you can only target one target however and only deals one slashing damage. Now i’m of the opinion not one owl under the right circ*mstances could basically party wipe a group of low-level adventures and i know that sounds crazy but hear me out. Also read hawk 5e.

Imagine if there’s one owl, it what would have to be night for this to work properly. But 120 feet is pretty substantial. There’s not a whole lot of ways to get it range up to 120 feet and what ways there are are completely defeated by the idea of cover. So imagine an owl everyturn running up or flying up i guess. Also read this dnd giant owl.

Attacking a party member and then flying away. Once again 60 feet of movement is pretty substantial and in a forested area at night it could take advantage of both cover and it’s insane darkvision.

So i think eventually one owl could wear them down, a group of owls perhaps i think it’d be pretty funny might do some good and teaching your party some humility if you find there out those lower levels and they’re getting kind of co*cky might be a good time to put them in their place by a cro complete abomination. what are the owl creatures in d&d?.

Conclusion

That being said, let me know how you would fold the owl monster dnd into your games down beneath in the comment section, also be sure to mention any thoughtsm questions, comments, concerns i really do appreciate it. That being said and i hope you guys all have a great day and as always happy researching.
