Whenever I'm in New York I like to grab a slice at this beautiful local pizza place called Sbarros. Nothing like it anywhere else in the world.

Kansas City is an underrated place to visit. True for many cities in the Midwest.

Gates BBQ. It’s up the street from the National WW1 Museum. The museum is fantastic and sobering at the same time. It’s a must do when you’re in Kansas City. Also, you can get a great view of the city from the museum.

Joes Kansas City is hands down the best BBQ in that part of the country. All the locals hit it and expect a long line but well worth the wait. Best restaurant BBQ I have ever had. https://www.joeskc.com/

And hit the original location! Actually on the Kansas side of the river. Pretty amazing food for a gas station! Thank me later!

Lot’s of the well known BBQ places are good in KC. Hard to go wrong there. There is a little spot I really liked called Clay & Fire. Kebabs and a craft pizza that really was great (I am from Philly so I rarely say that in the Midwest).

I lived there for 2 years. Lot of great stuff to choose from, but here are my thoughts:

    • Jack Stack is a good intro to KC bbq, but the type of place your hotel concierge would recommend.
    • Q39: a much better version of what you’ll get at Jack Stack. Best place for burnt ends imo.
    • Gates: more casual than the ones above. But arguably the best. My favorite sauce.
    • Joe’s KC: also casual. best sandwiches. Z-Man is unreal. Great fries too.
    • Arthur Bryant’s & Slaps in KCK are great too.
