Background Check:

Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Assisted Living Manager, the Caregiver provides the residents with help meeting all supervisory, personal, and directed level of care, non- medical needs in accordance with the Royal Oaks Assisted Living Care Plan.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides individualized attention to the resident to encourage each resident’s ability to maintain the highest practical physical, mental, and social well-being.

Attends to the individual needs of residents, which may include assistance with grooming, bathing, incontinent care, toileting, colostomy care, prosthetic appliances, transferring, ambulation, range of motion, communicating, urinary catheter care, blood glucose monitoring, vital sign monitoring, laundry assistance or service, nutrition service, life enriching activities, or other needs in keeping with each individual’s care requirement.

Maintains the comfort, privacy, and dignity of each resident in the delivery of services. Interacts with residents in a manner that displays warmth and promotes a caring environment.

Has full understanding of residents’ rights, including the right to be free of restraints and free of abuse. Is responsible for promptly reporting to the Assisted Living Manager, Wellness Nurse on site, or Director of Health Services incidents or evidence of resident abuse or a violation of residents’ rights.

Assists in maintaining a safe, neat, and clean environment. Reports all deficiencies to the Assisted Living Manager, such as equipment problems.

Protects the personal belongings of each resident, including eyeglasses, dentures, hearing aids, furnishings, jewelry, clothing memorabilia, etc.

Observes residents for changes in condition or behavior and promptly reports these changes to the Assisted Living Manager.

Manages medications for residents requiring assistance and/or medication administration when authorized by a physician and has demonstrated competency with the manager or designee.

Answers all residents’ call bells promptly and courteously, as well as anticipates needs of residents who are incapable of calling for assistance or recognizing the need for assistance.

Assists with orienting residents and their families to the assisted living facility.

When necessary, lifts, moves, and transports residents, using proper body mechanics or lifting devices.

Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with the residents, visitors, families, and co-workers.

Assists and escorts residents for appointments such as the beauty shop, activities, church services, etc. Participates in activities and functions as directed.

In keeping with department policy, administers to the residents and documents prescribed medications that have been premeasured and/or packaged.

Assists with light housekeeping and laundry. Keeps kitchen and dining area neat, dishes in dishwasher. Straightens resident’s room, bedside table, empties commode, disposes of soiled briefs, removes trash from resident rooms, provides hydration options in rooms, etc.

Performs all job responsibilities in accordance with prescribed safety and infection control procedures, including thorough hand washing, use of disposable gloves where indicated, and proper disposal of soiled materials.

Has ability to write clear, concise, and accurate care plans detailing the significant events of shift. Includes the time, the care provided, requests made by resident and responses. Is detailed in reporting responses.

Communicates all resolved and unresolved resident concerns and/or any unusual findings immediately to the Assisted Living Manager.

Is committed to keeping confidential any sensitive information.

Attends all meetings as required and assists other departments as needed.

Knowledge and Skills:
-Is at least 18 years of age.
-Has ability to speak, read, and write English.
-Has in-depth knowledge of Royal Oaks company policies and procedures.
-Has in-depth knowledge of safety compliance.
-Has computer proficiency-- Microsoft Word/Excel, Outlook and Internet
-Is organized, able to multi-task, think creatively, and adapt to different situations.

Education and Experience:
-Preferable High School diploma or GED equivalent.
-Has a minimum of three months of health-related experience or CNA training.
-Has a Caregiver Certification card for the State of Arizona.
-Has current CPR/First Aid certification card obtained in a classroom setting and issued by American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or National Safety Council. We will assist with this.
-Has current and valid Fingerprint clearance card or apply for one within 20 days of hire. We will assist with this.

Communication Skills:
-Has a clear speaking voice, must be fluent in English. Being bilingual would be a plus.
-Has ability to speak, work and interface with all levels of co-workers, residents, guests and employees.
-Has ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
-Demonstrates excellent telephone and customer service etiquette.
