Everything about the 3,000-seat theater was top-shelf: The enormous crystal chandeliers, the vast mirrored lobby, the elegant women's and men's lounges, the great cerise curtain across the stage. It was torn down in 1965.

June 11, 1949: Rochester began writing a new chapter of its civic history as television made its local debut before a full house audience at the Chamber of Commerce, which was transformed into temporary TV studio when entertainers went on the air. Cameras are focused on quartet of singers, "The Melody Mutilators," while a foursome of women singers, standing at left, awaits its video turn. TV debut was termed "one of the most successful on record.

The old aqueduct which carried the Erie Canal over the Genesee River is seen at right in this photo taken about 1890 from the site of the present Rundel Memorial Library. The second Court Street Bridge is seen left. This bridge was replaced in 1893. The former Erie Railroad Station, built in 1887 and demolished in 1942, is left of the bridge. The former Kimball Tobacco factory built about 1880, is shown center. The building, later used by Cluett-Peabody shirt company, was sold to George Eastman and later used as City Hall Annex until 1951.
