Here are 6 wonderful fairytale arts and crafts activities to enjoy making.

These fairytale arts and crafts activities use basic and inexpensive craft materials, such as paper plates, toilet rolls, coloured paper, glue, pens and pencils.

So, have lots of fun making them, as well as going on some fairytale adventures!

Arts and crafts are a wonderful way for children to express themselves, create something unique, gain a sense of achievement and have creative fun! They are also perfect holiday and rainy day activities.

Fairytale Arts & Crafts Activity 1

You will need:

  • Paper plates (I used 3 plates – 1 for the beanstalk and 2 for the leaves)
  • Paint brush
  • Green paint
  • Decorative bits, such as buttons, for the leaves (optional)

Making Instructions:

  1. Paint your paper plate. Leave it to dry. You can either paint one side or both sides if you want it green all over. Painting both sides just takes a bit more time!
  2. Cut out lots of leaf shapes from other paper plates. You could also use any card, paper or fabric.
  3. Paint (and decorate) the leaves. Cut beanstalk plate into a spiral.
  4. Make a hole in the middle of the plate ‘spiral’ and thread string through and tie securely.
  5. Glue leaves to your beanstalk and leave to dry.
  6. Hang up your beanstalk.

Fairytale Arts & Crafts Activity 2

Teddy Bear’s Toilet Roll Binoculars

6 Fairytale Arts & Crafts Activities (3)

You will need:

  • 2 toilet rolls
  • Glue
  • Ribbon or string
  • Stickers, buttons, sequins to decorate
  • Clothes pegs to hold the binoculars together whilst the glue dries
  • Paint or coloured paper to cover the toilet rolls

Making Instructions:

  1. Paint/cover the toilet rolls with coloured paper.
  2. Glue the toilet rolls down the middle, press together and then use clothes pegs to hold them in place until the glue dries.
  3. Staple the ribbon or string to the toilet rolls or make a hole at one end of each toilet roll. Thread the ribbon or string through and tie a knot to secure.
  4. Decorate the binoculars and wait for them to dry.
  5. Go on an adventure!

Fairytale Arts & Crafts Activity 3

Hey Diddle Diddle Cow jumping over a Paper Plate Moon

6 Fairytale Arts & Crafts Activities (4)

You will need:

  • Blue, yellow, white & black paint
  • 2 paper plates
  • A4 sheet white card
  • Black marker
  • Pencil
  • Split pin

Making Instructions:

  1. Paint 1 paper plate blue & using white paint, decorate with stars. Leave to dry.
  2. Draw a crescent moon on the other plate. Cut out and paint yellow. I used a milk bottle top and white paint to decorate the moon.
  3. Once dry, add an eye and mouth with black marker.
  4. Stick crescent moon to blue plate.
  5. On a sheet of A4 card, place your hand (with fingers & thumb spread out) at the bottom. Draw around your hand. Extend the little finger approximately 15cm. Cut out.
  6. Decorate cow’s body. I dipped my finger in black paint and created spots with my fingerprints.
  7. Draw cow’s head with marker. Cut out the head. Stick to cow’s body.
  8. Place cow behind the plate. Push split pin through centre of the paper plate and then through bottom of extended cow’s leg. The cow will now be able to move around the plate.
  9. Now have fun singing Hey Diddle Diddle and watch your cow jump over the moon!
